At the regular press conference on Ho Chi Minh City's socio-economic issues on the afternoon of April 24, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy - Deputy Head of the Market Management Department (under the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City) said that up to now, the city's authorities have not detected any cases of fake milk production or trading as reported by some other localities.
According to Mr. Huy, after the press reported on hundreds of fake milk products discovered on the market, consumers could not help but worry. Immediately afterwards, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department urgently deployed professional measures, strengthening inspection and closely monitoring milk products and food products circulating in the area.
The Department also requires Market Management Teams to proactively coordinate with police, health care and local authorities to tighten quality control of goods, especially at gathering points, cold warehouses, distribution lines and online sales channels - places with high potential risks of trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
At the same time, propaganda and dissemination of laws related to the production and trading of counterfeit goods, smuggled goods and goods of unknown origin have also been promoted.
According to the report, in 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department inspected and handled 590 violations related to food, temporarily detained more than 332,657 units of products of unknown origin, worth over VND 12.1 billion, and fined over VND 11.2 billion.
For dairy products alone, the authorities have inspected 7 cases, temporarily detained 2,654 boxes of milk and 40kg of milk powder, with a total value of more than 188 million VND, fined over 165 million VND and forced the destruction of all violating goods.
