The patient is being treated at the Emergency Department, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
According to the patient's family, patient V.D.H ate pork offal about 3 days before being hospitalized. The night before being discovered, the patient still called home but no one answered. The next morning, when breaking into the room, relatives saw him in a state of drowsiness, purple all over his body, diarrhea with bleeding and immediately took him to the emergency room.
At the initial medical facility, the patient was recorded to have severe low blood pressure, only 60/40 mmHg - a manifestation of severe cardiopulmonary shock. Despite being vaccinated and given vasopressors, blood pressure did not improve.
Doctors diagnosed the patient with septic shock - when the blood does not provide enough to nourish vital organs, which can lead to multiple organ failure and rapid death. The patient was urgently transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in critical condition.
The patient is being actively resuscitated, blood filtered, mechanical ventilation and bloodthinning and blood clotting indicators are being closely monitored. Doctors are also waiting for the results of the blood culture to determine the exact cause of the disease.
MSc. Dr. Le Son Viet - Emergency Department, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases - said: "The patient was hospitalized in a very serious condition, with deep low blood pressure and severe blood clotting disorder, and bleeding in many locations such as the nose, mouth, stomach and subcutaneous. In particular, there are necrotizing areas - dark purple, edema, and pain caused by bacteria attacking blood vessels that cause tissue necrosis. The necrosis is spreading to the four limbs, accompanied by subcutaneous bleeding, increasing the risk of widespread necrosis, sepsis and multiple organ failure. The outlook is very reserved".
Vietnamese doctors warn that streptococcusated pigs are dangerous bacteria, often having symptoms within 24-72 hours of entering the body. After just one day from the appearance of signs such as fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, the disease can progress very quickly to septic shock, necrosis and multiple organ failure.
To prevent this, people should eat meat of clear origin, quarantined and absolutely not eat stewed pork soup or undercooked pork. If after eating there are any unusual signs such as fever, headache, nausea, diarrhea... you should go to a medical facility immediately for timely examination and treatment" - Dr. Viet recommends.
