Frozen vegetables and canned fish: a convenient, nutritious choice
Many people think that fresh vegetables are always better than frozen, however, studies show that frozen vegetables are harvested when cooked and frozen quickly, retaining most of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. This is a choice that is both nutritious and convenient all year round.
Similarly, canned fish is also considered "unhealthy" due to its association with the concept of industrial processing. In fact, sardines, mackerel or canned salmon are still a source of protein, omega-3, vitamin D and B12. Eating regularly can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Nutritionist Morgan Pearson, MS, RD, New York University (USA) commented: "Carded tea and frozen vegetables are proof that convenient foods do not mean less nutrition, the important thing is to know how to choose less salt and add additives".
Coffee, potatoes, eggs and soy: nutritious if used properly
Coffee, if consumed in moderation (3 - 5 cups/day), can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and neurodegeneration thanks to its rich antioxidant content.
Potatoes are often misunderstood because they are often deep-fried. But when boiled or baked, they are rich in potassium, vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants, which help control blood pressure, weight and increase satiety.
Eggs have also been labeled as increasing cholesterol. However, many studies have confirmed that moderate egg consumption does not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Eggs provide high-quality protein, lutein and zeaxanthin to support vision and muscle.
Soybeans and preparations such as tofu, soy milk or edamame are a source of plant protein, isoflavones that are good for the heart, bones and hormone balance. The concept of soybeans causing endocrine disorders largely stems from misunderstandings.
Corn threshold: a seemingly harmful but healthy snack
In film culture, corn burning is often accompanied by butter, salt or sugar, easily considered an "unhealthy snack". However, burning corn in the air, without added oil, is a whole grain rich in fiber, supports weight control, good for digestion and cardiovascular disease.
The important thing is how to prepare it, says expert Pearson. A bowl of whole corn burner can be a nutritious snack, completely different from butter and salt in the cinema".
From frozen vegetables, canned fish to potatoes, eggs or corn, many foods that were once misunderstood are a valuable source of nutrients if processed properly. Instead of eliminating them, consumers should learn how to use them properly to take advantage of the health benefits they bring.
