On January 23, the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital (Quang Binh) announced that it had successfully reattached a patient's nearly severed wrist.
Previously, on January 13, patient H.T.N (born in 1991, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province) was taken to Le Thuy District General Hospital for emergency treatment, in a state of complete median nerve and ulnar nerve rupture; damage to the entire tendon system of the wrist; open fractures of the bones in the wrist area; and almost complete wrist rupture.
Given the complexity of the wound, doctors quickly took the patient to the Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment.
Here, the team of doctors from the Department of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery examined and took the patient to the operating room immediately after performing the necessary tests.
The surgery lasted more than 5 hours, using microsurgical techniques. Doctors meticulously stitched together all the severed nerves, blood vessels, and tendons, and fixed the broken bones. During the surgery, the patient received an emergency blood transfusion to compensate for the blood loss.
Thanks to the dedication and efforts of the team of doctors and nurses of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, the surgery was successful.
After surgery, the patient's condition was stable, and the hand gradually recovered function with the ability to flex and extend the wrist and fingers.
According to the patient's family, while working, the patient accidentally cut his wrist.
On January 23, the patient was discharged from the hospital and returned home.
