On the morning of November 1, information from Khanh Hoa General Hospital said that the unit had just saved a 36-year-old male patient with peritoneal peritoneum sigma - the result of swallowing a bamboo toothpick.
Previously, on October 30, the hospital admitted a patient in a state of severe pain in the lower abdomen. According to the patient, a few days ago, while drinking water, he accidentally swallowed a bamboo toothpick that was holding water, but subjectively did not go to the doctor.
It was only when the pain became more and more severe that he was hospitalized. The abdominal CT scan showed a foreign object projected across the sigma and rectal walls, with the two pointed ends of the toothpick projected across the walls.
Doctors from the endoscopy unit promptly removed the towel safely. After 1 day, the patient's pain improved, the abdomen was soft and he was being monitored for additional risk of duodenal perforation due to the movement of a sharp foreign object.
According to Khanh Hoa General Hospital, foreign body coughing is a common accident, on average the unit receives 1015 cases per month, mainly in the esophagus or stomach. Cases of foreign objects entering the colon are very rare, only 23 cases are recorded per year, often due to patients being slow to go to the doctor.
Doctors recommend that people should not hold back when talking, drinking water or resting, need to chew bone-based foods thoroughly and go to medical facilities immediately when suspected of strangling to avoid dangerous complications.
