People's Hospital 115 said that it has just coordinated with Hung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and Hematology Blood Transfusion Hospital to successfully save a 29-year-old patient who was transferred from an obstetrics hospital in a state of preeclampsia and underwent proactive surgery at the 36th month of pregnancy. The baby was lucky to be healthy, but just a few hours after giving birth, the mother fell into a state of jaundice, drowsiness, shortness of breath, liver and kidney failure, suspected HELLP syndrome. The condition quickly worsened, the patient was transferred to People's Hospital 115 in a state of severe shock, with blood clotting disorder, and had to be placed in the tracts of the airways.
After an emergency consultation, doctors oriented this to be a case of acute fatty liver during pregnancy, a rare disease that can cause multiple organ failure. Despite being filtered, huyet tuong solution was replaced many times and treated intensively, the patient still bled continuously, blood pressure dropped, and fell into a coma. The doctor was forced to activate the "red alert" process throughout the hospital, transferring the mother to the operating room after only 5 minutes.
The joint surgical team between People's Hospital 115 and Hung Vuong Hospital performed an emergency surgery and discovered a large blood clot in the abdominal wall, draining more than 2 liters of dark red blood. Although the specific bleeding location could not be determined, the doctors still decided to incubate, place a drainage and continue to closely monitor.
After surgery, the mother continued to bleed amarily, with hemoglobin index dropping to only 2g/dL - a life-threatening level. The patient had to be injected with nearly 10 liters of red blood cells, 5 liters of soy sauce and 3 liters of platelets - equivalent to a whole body "blood exchange". Thanks to the in-depth coordination with Ho Chi Minh City Hematology Transfusion Hospital and resuscitation specialists, the patient gradually recovered, removed from the ventilator after 4 days and was discharged after more than 15 days of intensive treatment.
According to experts, acute fatty liver (AFLP) is a rare but extremely dangerous disease that often occurs in the third trimester or right after birth. The disease can lead to liver failure, kidney failure, blood clotting disorder and death if not treated promptly.
Warning signs to note: fatigue, nausea, liver pain, jaundice, small urine, edema, perception disorders or abnormal bleeding. High risk group: women with preeclampsia, HELLP, double pregnancy, or who have had AFLP in a previous pregnancy.
