According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the subjects requested to provide personal information with the reason "abnormal blood donation results". The health sector recommends that people do not follow instructions from unknown numbers and quickly report to the authorities when in doubt.
Previously, the press reported on the situation in recent days, hundreds of blood donors in Ho Chi Minh City have received strange calls claiming to be employees of the Department of Health, the Hematology Transfusion Hospital, the City Humanitarian Blood Donation Center, ... and units organizing blood donation, informing that the blood donation results of the people are "abnormal".
After that, the subjects asked to provide images of citizen identification cards, VNeID accounts, and Zalo friends to "instruct registration for examination, testing or identity verification". This is a new form with signs of fraud, causing panic in the community of voluntary blood donors, seriously threatening the rights of people, causing disorder in social order and affecting the reputation of the health sector as well as the humanitarian blood donation movement in the city.
In the past, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector has coordinated with relevant units to implement many communication activities, warning people through the "Golden Blood Drops" application, official websites and fanpages, as well as sending SMS messages to the blood donation community to be vigilant, not providing personal information and not following the instructions of scammers. At the same time, the health sector coordinates with news agencies to communicate about the blood donation process to help people understand, both prevent fraud and contribute to mobilizing participation in voluntary blood donation, including giving warnings and recommendations on fraud prevention by text message to voluntary blood donors.
Accordingly, medical facilities and blood donation receiving units only contact people using official methods. The message sent to the blood donor will display the brand name "BVTMHH" or "TTHIENMAUTP". The hospital absolutely does not require people to provide personal information via applications, Zalo or any links. If there is any doubt, people should immediately call the hotline of the Hematology Blood Transfusion Hospital at 028.3955 7858 for verification.
The Department of Health recommends that people absolutely do not provide personal information to strange calls and messages. When detecting suspicious signs, people need to stay calm, do not follow the instructions of strangers, and proactively report to the police or notify medical facilities for timely support and handling.
The city's health sector will continue to closely coordinate with relevant units to continue monitoring the situation, updating developments and closely coordinating with authorities to protect the rights and information security of blood donors.
