Patient T.V. (35 years old, Ho Chi Minh City) works as a construction worker, during working unfortunately fell from above due to a broken temporary elevator at the construction site, the patient was taken to Gia Dinh People's Hospital for emergency treatment in a state of multiple injuries. Previously, this hospital also rescued another worker who fell from the 3rd floor to the ground, admitted to the hospital with respiratory failure, low blood pressure, pleural effusion, broken ribs and ruptured liver, requiring emergency intervention to overcome the critical condition.
Or at Gia An 115 Hospital, doctors also made efforts to save a male worker who had a punctured abdomen and intestinal discharge due to his shirt sleeve wrapped in the machine while working overtime at night. Although he saved his life, the serious injuries still left long-term sequelae.
In addition to construction accidents, many dangers related to mechanical machinery, wood processing, iron, grinders... also continuously occur, especially during night shifts, when workers are tired and lack vigilance.
According to BS.CKII Dang Thi My Hien, Head of the Emergency Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital, the number of labor accidents admitted to the hospital is very diverse. The most common are soft tissue injuries, severed arms, severed legs or simple fractures that can be treated quickly and discharged from the hospital on the same day. However, the most dangerous cases are often related to the construction industry, especially accidents of falling from a height.
This is a group of accidents that easily cause severe multiple injuries, damage to the spine, chest, abdomen, liver, lungs and brain. Not every case is lucky to be saved in time," Dr. Hien worried.
According to doctors, the leading cause is still non-compliance with labor safety procedures: using uninspected temporary ladders, not wearing safety ropes when working on high ground, operating with machinery without power outages. Besides, there is fatigue due to prolonged overtime, working at night, causing reflexes and concentration to decline.
To limit risks, doctors recommend that workers do not wear loose clothes when working with machinery, do not be subjective even if they are used to work. Businesses need to check equipment periodically, equip full protective gear and closely monitor safety procedures.
When an accident occurs, proper first aid is needed, blood-stopping bandages, and a fixed splint if bone fractures are suspected, and immediately call emergency room 115. For cases suspected of spinal injury or severe multiple injuries, absolutely do not arbitrarily move the victim.
Prevention is still the most important solution for workers to return home safely, especially in the last days of the year," Dr. Hien emphasized.
