On July 31, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province issued a document requesting competent authorities to strengthen inspection and handling of illegal medical examination and treatment activities in the area.
Accordingly, the province requires the Department of Health to preside over and coordinate with the Provincial Police and local authorities to conduct reviews and inspections of medical and pharmaceutical establishments; especially cases that claim to be "diplomatic doctors" and "medical salaries" but do not have practice certificates, operate without permission, and advertise false information.
The Provincial People's Committee emphasized that violations of the law in the health sector need to be strictly handled, and the results must be made public on mass media to keep people vigilant and avoid taking advantage.
The province also requires promoting the dissemination of laws on medical and pharmaceutical practice in the community, especially in remote areas, to raise awareness and help people choose the right legal and safe medical examination and treatment facilities.
The police will strengthen the investigation and handling of acts of impersonating doctors, salaries, and fraud in the health sector, avoiding serious consequences for people's health and lives.
In June 2025, the police arrested Nguyen Van Kien (born in 1985, residing in village 3, Hai Yang commune, old Dak Doa district) for superstitious and exorbitant behavior. Kien informed that he was a " machete" capable of curing cancer in just 1-2 days by transmitting energy, making many people believe in him for treatment.
Previously, the authorities of Gia Lai province discovered that at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Clinic (located in Pleiku ward), a man named Chien (from An Nhon commune, Gia Lai province) had claimed to be doctor Vo Minh Thanh to illegally examine a number of people. Although graduated with a major in Culture and did not have a medical degree or practice certificate, the Russian doctor still treated the veins with fiber injection and high- frequency laser for patients.
