On April 8, the Buon Ma Thuot Ward Health Station (Dak Lak province) informed that an outbreak of mumps with 10 suspected students at Tran Van On Elementary School had just been recorded in the area.
Accordingly, among the 10 students suspected of having mumps, 6 were found at school with symptoms such as fever, pain in the jaw and ear canal area.
After the discovery, the school reviewed other classes and recorded 4 more students absent from school due to suspected symptoms of mumps. The school also notified parents to take the children for examination and treatment. To date, no severe complications have been recorded.
Faced with the above situation, the Ward Health Station has implemented measures to investigate and monitor suspected cases and illnesses in schools as well as in the community; make lists and monitor cases and suspected cases.
In addition, the unit also guides families to care for and monitor children at home; provides chloramine B chemicals to schools and parents, and also guides on how to mix solutions and clean surfaces in classrooms as well as in residences.
Mr. Hoang Hai Phuc - Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) - said: "The Provincial CDC will continue to supplement chloramine B levels for units implementing school hygiene. At the same time, continue to propagate and mobilize people in the area about the harmful effects of the epidemic to raise awareness for people".
Previously, on April 3, the health sector recorded many cases of suspected mumps in students in Cu Pong commune (Dak Lak province). Through initial investigation, cases appeared sporadically in 5 classes, belonging to grades 1 to 3.
The medical force has recorded 9 cases of illness, all of whom are students of Pham Hong Thai Elementary School.
