1. Drink a glass of warm water
Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to control your blood sugar levels. Drinking warm water in the morning can help hydrate your body after a long night, support blood circulation and improve metabolism. This also helps your body maintain stable blood sugar levels.
High blood sugar can cause you to urinate more, which can make you more dehydrated.
So start your day with a glass of warm water and then hydrate your body throughout the day. As many studies have shown, on average we should drink 1.5 - 2 liters of water per day.
2. Say no to coffee
Many people have the habit of drinking coffee every morning. However, coffee can cause blood sugar levels to spike, especially in the morning. Although black coffee does not cause significant changes in blood sugar levels, few people drink pure black coffee but often add sugar/milk - the main cause of increased blood sugar levels.
If you are addicted to coffee, you can drink it during the day as long as you limit the amount of sugar/milk you drink with it.
3. Eat a balanced breakfast
Eating a breakfast rich in protein and fiber within an hour of waking up can help stabilize blood sugar levels.
When you skip breakfast, your body does not get the energy it needs and is forced to release stored glucose into the bloodstream to maintain blood sugar levels. This triggers a spike in blood glucose. Conversely, eating a high-carbohydrate breakfast will also lead to a rapid increase in blood glucose levels.
That's why experts recommend a breakfast that includes three important ingredients: protein, healthy fats, and fiber. For example, a whole-wheat banh mi with eggs/lettuce and avocado or a cup of Greek yogurt with nutritious nuts.
