1. Choose good carbohydrates
All carbohydrates increase blood sugar, so patients need to know which foods contain carbohydrates and choose foods that contain good carbohydrates (less increase blood sugar) such as: whole grains such as: brown rice, buckwheat and oats, fruits, vegetables and nuts.
2. Eat less (salt): Eating salty foods can increase blood pressure, thereby increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. People with diabetes should only eat a maximum of 6g of salt per day (a tablespoon).
3. Eat less red meat and processed meat
Usually, when we have to eat less carbohydrates, we will eat more day meat to compensate. However, you should limit eating red meat and processed meats such as salted meat, bacon, sausage, beef or Lamb because these meats often increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and heartburn.
4. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
They all know that vegetables and fruits are good for health, so they should try to eat as much as possible, and use them for snacks when hungry. It provides the vitamins, minerals, and fiber the body needs.
5. Choose healthy fats
Fat is needed by the body because it provides energy, but different types of fat can have different effects on health. Good-fat foods are unsalted fruits, nuts, avocados, fish oils, olive oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, etc., so avoid some types of saturated fat that can increase blood cholesterol and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
6. Reduce added sugar (free sugar)
Reducing your sugar intake is important because it helps control blood sugar and control weight. However, this cut will be very difficult, so first cut down on a very small amount, and gradually replace soft drinks, energy drinks, fruit juices with water, unsweetened milk, tea or unsweetened coffee.
However, if you have hypoglycemia, you should still use sugar and soft drinks to quickly increase blood sugar. However, if you have regular hypoglycemia, talk to your doctor to adjust your medication dose.
7. Smart snacks
If you want to have a snack, you can choose to eat unsweetened yogurt, unsalted fruits or nuts, fruits or vegetables. Do not eat cakes, French fries, cookies or chocolate. However, you should pay attention to the portion sizes of your snacks to avoid gaining weight.
