Doctors say that eye changes are sometimes an early sign of weak liver, but are easily overlooked because of silent progress.
According to many medical documents, yellow eyes are the most typical manifestation. When the liver is not functioning properly, bilirubin, the yellow pigment, is not processed effectively, leading to stagnation and turning the ridgeous area yellow. In addition, patients may experience dry eyes, itchy eyes and blurred vision in the afternoon, due to impaired liver ability to metabolize fat and vitamins, especially vitamin A.
The eye is one of the first places to detect liver disorders, says Dr Robert Murray, a geopath at Ohio State University. Prolonged dry eyes, accompanied by fatigue and poor appetite, should be considered a warning sign that the liver is overloaded". He emphasized that not all cases of dry or red eyes are caused by the liver, but combining many systemic symptoms can help with early identification.
Some studies in the journal Liverpool International also recorded that people with fatty liver or chronic hepatitis have a high rate of developing dry eye syndrome due to maternity disorder. A weak liver slows down the detoxification process, creating conditions for oxidants to accumulate, thereby increasing the inflammatory response around the eyes.
In addition, people with weak liver often complain about prolonged dark circles, and not getting enough sleep to improve. Experts explain that the liver directly affects blood circulation; when this function is impaired, the skin around the eyes can easily darken due to lack of tissue oxygen.
Dr. Murray recommends: If you experience simultaneous yellow eyes, fatigue and digestive disorders, you should have your liver checked. Early treatment is always more effective than waiting until severe damage appears".
To protect the liver, doctors recommend maintaining a reasonable weight, limiting foods high in sugar, increasing green vegetables, and having regular health check-ups. Recognizing signals from the eyes can help detect weak liver early, avoiding dangerous complications later.
