At noon on October 23, information from the leader of Nghe An Department of Health said that at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, a man had just used a weapon to attack, injuring many people, including 4 medical staff.
According to initial information, at around 10am, Bang Van Vy (born in 1996), from Bac Ninh, currently residing in Que Phong commune, Nghe An province, suddenly entered room 305, used a knife to attack medical staff and patients' relatives who were taking care of the child.

The hospital security force quickly arrived, asking Vy to stop, lock the nursing room tightly, and wait for the police to come and control and arrest him.
The incident injured 4 medical staff including Ms. Tran Thi Hong, Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai, Nguyen Thi Nhung, 2 patients' families and 1 newborn baby. Of which, nurse Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang was most seriously injured with 4 stabs deep into the neck and chest; the other victims were injured in the abdomen, eyes, and head.
Immediately after the incident, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital transferred the victims to Nghe An General Friendship Hospital for emergency care. Emergency surgeries have been performed, and all medical staff are now out of danger.
Director of Nghe An Department of Health Le Thi Hoai Chung and Deputy Directors of Department Tran Minh Tue and Nguyen Huu Le were directly present at the two hospitals to direct the treatment work, encourage the spirit of doctors and patients, and at the same time direct the stabilization of the situation, ensuring that medical examination and treatment activities took place normally.
