Ms. Le Thi Thuy Dung (born in 1987, Hoa Khanh Nam ward, Lien Chieu district) works as a fish seller at Hoa Khanh market from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day. She accepts any extra work in her free time. However, Ms. Dung's income is irregular.
Currently, Ms. Dung is living with her husband, Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong, who works as a construction worker around Hoa Khanh Nam area, and her son Nguyen Viet Anh Minh, born in 2016, in grade 3; her son Nguyen Viet Anh Tuan, born in 2018, in grade 1. Both of Ms. Dung's children study at Nguyen Van Troi Primary School. Ms. Dung and Mr. Cuong's family live in a rented room on Pham Nhu Suong Street.
Ms. Dung lost her father when she was young. Her mother, Ms. Le Thi Hue (born in 1960), recently had an accident and broke her shoulder blade and tibia and had to be treated at Hue Central Hospital.
Dung's family is poor, unfortunately, Dung is seriously ill and cannot afford treatment. Nguyen Viet Cuong has tried to mobilize all resources so that his wife can have a chance to live and his children can still have a mother. However, the family's resources are limited, Dung is on ECMO, dialysis, the treatment costs are high and the prognosis is long-term. Therefore, Cuong's family is facing many difficulties.
Specialist Doctor Ha Son Binh - Head of the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of Da Nang Hospital said: "This is an acute myocarditis, the virus attacks the heart muscle and makes it unable to function. Currently, ECMO is the only method that can help patient Le Thi Thuy Dung return to normal health. However, the cost of ECMO is extremely expensive, beyond the patient's ability to pay."
According to Dr. Ha Son Binh, if artificial heart-lung intervention is performed promptly, the possibility of recovery is very high.
A representative of the Social Work Department of Da Nang Hospital said that this is a case of a young patient in a really difficult situation with a fairly severe illness.
"The patient needs high treatment costs but does not have health insurance, so the Social Work Department is doing its best to support the patient with the hope of helping the patient overcome the disease and return to their husband, children and family" - said a representative of the Social Work Department of Da Nang Hospital.
