Incidents are happenring
In 2010, Ms. Tuyen married Mr. Vo Thanh Thai (from Vinh Long) - a worker at a chemical company. After a year, the couple welcomed a new member, Vo Nguyen Anh Thu. However, due to difficult family circumstances with her husband, both husband and wife decided to take their child back to their hometown in Binh Hung area, Phuoc Thoi ward, Can Tho city to live.
In a small house built on the land of her biological brother in Binh Hung area, Ms. Tuyen recounted that in the early years, Anh Thu developed like many other children. It was not until Anh Thu was 5 years old that she began to show strange signs, could not control her behavior and often broke up and screamed. When he was taken to the hospital, the doctor diagnosed him with mental illness.
In 2018, Ms. Tuyen and her husband had a second child, Vo Phuc Hau. It was thought that the appearance of a new member would ease the family's sadness, but in the same year, Mr. Thai was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. To treat Mr. Thai, the whole family put all their savings into it, even borrowing it. However, by the end of 2019, Mr. Thai passed away, leaving behind his wife and 2 children.
Parents' worries
Having a 3-leaf heart disease, but to have money to raise her children, Ms. Tuyen has to do all kinds of jobs, from housework, laundry to driving a motorbike taxi... Working hard and getting sick on the body, so many times, she has fainted from exhaustion.
Most recently, Ms. Tuyen asked to be a part-time worker at a restaurant. Just like that, every day, this woman wakes up at 3am to go to work and takes advantage of her time to go home to take care of rice, pick vegetables, and dig mustard to earn more money to take care of her children.
Despite doing all the work, the small amount of money could not help Ms. Tuyen's family make ends meet, especially in the past 2 years, Thu's illness has become increasingly serious. "Although he is old, he cannot take care of himself, and sometimes even has a smash. Even sadder was that the younger son also showed strange signs, spoke less, and was attractive. When he took the child to the hospital for examination, the doctor concluded that he was mentally ill. Seeing the two children screaming and fighting when they have an illness, I can only hold them tightly and cry," Ms. Tuyen said choking up.
Currently, Mrs. Tuyen and her 2 children depend on Thu's social allowance. Local authorities and neighbors regularly provide rice and necessities to help the family. However, what Ms. Tuyen hopes for most is that open heart valve disease will not take away her health so that she can continue to take care of her children.
Regarding Ms. Tuyen's family's situation, Mr. Vo Thanh Dang - Head of Binh Hung area - said that during holidays and Tet, the locality always prioritizes supporting her as well as calling on benefactors for help. However, the difficulties have only eased somewhat. Having to take care of two young children alone, and often feeling weak, the family's life is very difficult.
