LD26022: Chronic kidney failure in the late stage, exhausted woman hopes for help

PHƯƠNG AN |

Kidney failure complications causing osteoporosis caused Ms. Tram's two legs to be disabled, making walking difficult.

Ms. Vo Ngoc Tram (born in 1994, from Xuan Loc, Dong Nai) is fighting against end-stage chronic kidney failure every day, in extremely difficult economic circumstances.

Ms. Tram said that before, her health was completely normal. However, by 2020, she began to show abnormal symptoms such as leg edema, constant body fatigue, frequent urination and high blood pressure. When she went for examination, she received the result of end-stage chronic kidney failure.

I have been treated with peritoneal dialysis for 2 years and have had 3 infections. The 3rd time was too severe, I could not continue this method, so I had to switch to hemodialysis. Up to now, I have been dialysis for more than 4 years," Ms. Tram shared.

To facilitate treatment, Ms. Tram had to leave her hometown and move to Bien Hoa city to live near the hospital. Currently, she is renting a room at No. 55/30 Nguyen Bao Duc, Tam Hiep, Bien Hoa, Dong Nai province.

Prolonged treatment has caused Ms. Tram's health to decline more and more, leading to many complications such as anemia, mild and moderate malnutrition due to protein deficiency, albumin disorders. She had a glottis surgery for dialysis, and currently two clots are still clearly visible on her hand at the surgical site.

In particular, kidney failure complications causing osteoporosis caused Ms. Tram's two legs to be disabled, making walking difficult. "I can still live and walk, but I cannot step on stairs or high steps because my knee joints are stiff," Ms. Tram said.

After more than 6 years of treatment, Ms. Tram's family's economy was almost exhausted. When she was healthy enough, she took on knitting and crocheting according to orders, whoever hired her would do it, but few people ordered, so the income was very meager.

Currently, she has to spend about 1.2 million VND per month on rent and electricity and water. However, this amount of money, along with living expenses and food, mainly depends on her mother in the countryside. However, her mother is also suffering from a serious illness, living with her youngest son and his wife.

The younger brother and his wife are workers, and their income is only enough to cover living expenses. Above Ms. Tram, there are two older sisters who have married and live in Ho Chi Minh City. The eldest sister's family is burdened with a debt of nearly 2 billion VND and raises 3 children, while the second sister's family's income is only enough to eat, so they cannot provide much support.

I also have a 9-year-old daughter, who is currently living with her father. Because I am sick all year round, and my economy is still dependent on my mother, I cannot support my ex-husband in raising the child," Ms. Tram said.

Regarding treatment costs, although she enjoys 100% health insurance for dialysis, there are still many expenses outside the insurance list. On average, Ms. Tram has to pay about 1.6 - 1.7 million VND per month for hospital fees.

For me at this time, hospital fees are really a very heavy burden. I hope philanthropists and benefactors can help so that I have more conditions to continue treatment and maintain my life," Ms. Tram choked up.
