Amidst the daily hardships of making a living, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha (born in 1986) and Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi (born in 1981) residing in Xuan Son village, Phong Nha commune (Quang Tri province) are struggling every day to overcome major upheavals when their youngest daughter suffers from many dangerous diseases.
Mr. Khoi and Ms. Ha's family has 5 children, Nguyen Le Hang (born in 2020) is the youngest child, also the most disadvantaged child. Life was already difficult when both husband and wife worked as freelancers, with unstable income of about 9 million VND/month, now it is even more difficult and exhausted because their children are sick for a long time.

Right from birth at Vietnam - Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital, baby Hang showed signs of abnormality. Only 2 days after birth, the family had to urgently transfer her to Hue Central Hospital for emergency treatment. Since then, her treatment journey has almost had no stopping point...
For the first time, baby Hang was hospitalized for 3 months. Returning home for only a month, her condition deteriorated again, and she continued to be taken back to Hue by her parents for treatment. Since then, the hospital has become a place that has been close to her childhood almost completely. Baby Hang has celebrated 2 Tet holidays in the hospital, from 2022 to 2024, away from the family home and the simple joys of childhood.
Born with many serious congenital defects such as cleft palate, malnutrition and severe esophageal atrophy, baby Hang cannot eat normally. Every day, she has to live thanks to a feeding tube directly into her stomach, each feeding is painful, causing her to often cry.

Having just undergone esophageal plastic surgery, currently, baby Hang is being treated in room No. 8, Department of Pediatric Surgery - Abdominal Emergency, Hue Central Hospital. According to Ms. Ha's sharing, Hang's road ahead is still very long with many interventions and high costs.
Throughout that journey, beside baby Hang, there were only her mother and grandmother, Mrs. Hoang Thi Yen (born in 1959). Although she herself suffered from many diseases such as high blood pressure, bone and joint pain, and frequent dizziness, Mrs. Yen still tried to be on duty to take care of her grandchild and daughter.
In his hometown, Mr. Khoi worked as a construction worker and took care of 4 children, the economic burden fell on the shoulders of the breadwinner, making life even more stressful.
Mentioning his child, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi choked up: "Seeing my child suffer such pain since childhood, I feel so sorry. Sometimes I am helpless and just stand and watch my child cry. No matter how difficult it is, my husband and I will try to save our child...".
Many sleepless nights by the hospital bed with her daughter, Ms. Ha is also physically and mentally exhausted. "My child is too young to endure so much pain. I just hope my child has the opportunity to recover and live like other children," Ms. Ha said sadly.
To have money for their child's treatment, Ms. Ha and Mr. Khoi's family borrowed everywhere. The total treatment cost to date is about 250 million VND - a large amount exceeding the capacity of a farming family, general laborers.
Not only that, to save costs, every day Ms. Ha has to ask for charity rice in the hospital to eat through meals, saving money to buy milk and diapers for her children. Temporary meals, long nights by the hospital bed have become familiar to this woman...
