LD26074: Disease surrounds, two young children face the risk of dropping out of school because their families are exhausted

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - Accelerating illness, Thach Thi Sanl's family fell into poverty, living on social charity, and two young children faced the risk of dropping out of school.

We came to the charity house that was previously supported, which has been stained by time, with patchy walls and degraded roofs, nestled in Soc Rung hamlet, Ngai Tu commune, Vinh Long province. The space is deserted, and poverty is overwhelming.

In that house, Mrs. Thach Thi Sanl (born in 1957) lay motionless on an old bed after a stroke. Her body was thin and weak, and all activities were dependent, making life even more difficult and deadlocked.

Ms. Thach Thi Sanl said that after the illness, her health seriously deteriorated and she was no longer able to work. Before that, she also had a bruise in her head due to an accident but did not have the conditions for treatment.

Now I just lie in one place, eating and living are all thanks to relatives. I am sick and have no money to go for examination, many times I just know how to endure," she added, her voice broken, her eyes full of worry.

Not only Mrs. Sanl, the family also suffered more pain when her daughter suffered from end-stage cirrhosis, with a swollen abdomen. The serious illness forced her to bring her two young children to take refuge, in a situation where there was no way out.

According to Ms. Sanl, drug and living expenses are piling up day by day while there is no income. Everything depends on support from neighbors, philanthropists, and life is precarious with each meal.

Two young children are still of school age but their future is at risk of being unfinished. Without money to pay tuition fees, books, the path to education is gradually becoming distant, making anyone who witnesses it feel sorry," Ms. Sanl added.

The neighbor, Thach Thi La, said that poverty and hardship have haunted this family for a long time, rushing in rapid succession, making them unable to manage, and life is increasingly sinking deeper into deadlock.

“Previously, the family was already in difficulty, now they are continuously sick and no longer able to do business. Seeing the scene like this, people around help each other with whatever they have, but they can only survive day by day,” Ms. La added.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi Mot - Secretary cum Head of Soc Rung hamlet, Ms. Sanl's family used to be a poor household. After receiving housing support and a temporarily stable life, a medical incident struck again.

Currently, the family's circumstances are very difficult, especially when her daughter is also seriously ill and has to return to live. The locality is proposing to consider bringing the family back to the poor household category," Mr. Muoi Mot added.

Although they have received support from the government and philanthropists, facing the burden of illness and living, Ms. Sanl's family is still falling into a state of desperation, with no clear way out.

In the middle of a dilapidated house, children's eyes are still looking towards the unfinished learning future. Ms. Sanl's family really needs the community's cooperation to overcome this difficult period.
