In the early days of July 2026, returning to Thinh Lac village, Hoa Quy commune, Thanh Hoa province, we met Ms. Luong Thi Van (born 1990) while busy taking care of her youngest child who is still very young. With a haggard face and eyes filled with sadness, she still could not recover from the sudden passing of her husband, Mr. Le Van Truong (born 1984).
Local people said that Mr. Truong is gentle, hardworking and always wholeheartedly for his family. For many years, he has been the main breadwinner, shouldering the economic burden to support his wife and children and support his elderly parents. Unexpected disaster struck in early May 2026. After a day of work and returning home, Mr. Truong suddenly suffered a stroke. Although he was quickly taken to the emergency room by his family and neighbors, he did not survive.
Mr. Truong's passing left too much room for the small family. At that time, Ms. Van was pregnant with her fourth child. Before she could recover from the pain of losing her husband, she had to embark on the journey of becoming a single mother with so many worries ahead.
He passed away, I felt like I lost the biggest support in my life. There were nights when I watched my children sleep and I just knew how to cry because I didn't know what the future would be like," Ms. Van choked up.
Currently, Ms. Van is taking care of and raising 4 children alone. The eldest child is Le Thi Thu Uyen, who is in 9th grade; Le Van Bac is in 7th grade; Le Tam Nhu is preparing to enter 1st grade; and the youngest child Le Tuan Khai is still in the age of needing special care from his mother.
Four children are of eating and learning age. Each new school year adds money for books, clothes, tuition fees and living expenses, making the young mother more worried.

Since her husband passed away, Ms. Van has almost no stable income. Due to having to take care of young children, she has not been able to work far away or receive regular work. All expenses in the family mainly depend on the help of relatives and neighbors.
Difficulties did not stop there. Her parents-in-law are both old and weak. The grandfather of the children suffers from prolonged illness, and every 2 months they have to be hospitalized for treatment and blood transfusions. Medication and travel expenses make the family's already tight economy even more exhausted.
Sitting on the porch, Le Thi Thu Uyen - Ms. Van's eldest daughter - quietly watched her siblings play. Since her father passed away, she understands more about the hardships her mother is enduring. The dream of the little student is to continue going to school and later have a stable job to help her mother.
I just hope my mother is healthy to raise us to study. I will try to study really well so as not to disappoint my parents," Uyen said softly.
According to the reporter's investigation, Ms. Van's family situation is currently very difficult. Losing the main labor force has caused the lives of the 5 mothers and children to fall into a state of shortage. Meanwhile, ahead is still a long road with countless expenses to raise and care for the future of the 4 children.
Local representatives said that Ms. Luong Thi Van's family is a case with particularly difficult circumstances after the tragedy of losing a loved one. The government, organizations and people in the residential area have repeatedly encouraged and supported, but before the prolonged difficulties, the family really needs the joint efforts of the community.
All the sharing of organizations, businesses and kind hearts at this time will be a valuable source of encouragement, helping the young mother have more conditions to take care of her children, overcome the most difficult period of life and continue to nurture the unfinished dreams of the 4 children lacking the love of their father.
