On the afternoon of November 30, the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund presented 50 million VND to the People's Committee of Tay Nha Trang Ward to support union members and workers renting accommodation that were heavily affected by the flood.
The damage is immeasurable
Taking us to a boarding house in a small alley on Luong Dinh Cua Street, Mr. Le Phuong Dai - a union member of Nha Trang Seafoods F17 Hot Tourism Joint Stock Company looked quite tired.
The days of cleaning up after the flood made his face clearly red from exhaustion. Recalling the time when the water rose rapidly at night, he was still shocked.
According to Mr. Dai, the water was just at his knees, so he rushed to take his two children to a nearby friend's house. When he returned to pick up his belongings, the water had risen above the door. The strong current made the couple not dare to go out.
"When we saw that the water was at risk of overflowing through the main gate and a boat was passing by, we called for help, pulled the door open and tried to take a life jacket to swim outside," Mr. Dai recounted.
Mr. Dai works as a security guard, his wife works for the same company, and his income is just enough to cover the cost of raising two children, renting a house and medicine for both parents.
After the flood, the company also suffered heavy damage. For Mr. Dai and his wife, the motorbike used for work and many valuable items were damaged by the water. Sharing the difficulties with the family, the Golden Heart Social Support Fund gave him and his wife 5 million VND to help stabilize their lives soon.
Not far from Mr. Dai's house, Ms. Phan Thi Tieng, who is pregnant and in her 35th week, also experienced a life-and-death night when the floodwaters suddenly rose. The water flooded into the house nearly 2m, forcing the whole family to break the door in the attic to go to a neighbor's house higher to avoid the accident.
As soon as the water receded, Ms. Tieng had to be hospitalized and became pregnant on November 30. Representatives of the Golden Heart Social Support Fund promptly gave 5 million VND, both to encourage the spirit and to partially support the cost of caring for the mother and two children.
Timely and practical source of encouragement
At the program, representatives of the Golden Heart Social Support Fund coordinated with the People's Committee of Tay Nha Trang Ward and the Ward Trade Union to present 20 support packages, each worth 2 million VND, to workers renting a room who suffered heavy losses.
According to preliminary statistics, the ward has more than 19,000 affected households, 17 houses completely or partially collapsed, and 192 damaged houses needing repair.
By November 29, the ward had completed the first payment to support overcoming the consequences of natural disasters with a total amount of nearly 2.6 billion VND.
However, the number of tenants suffering heavy losses is huge, while the support policy has not fully covered. The ward has proposed and received additional policies from the province to support this group of subjects.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Danh, Vice Chairman of Tay Nha Trang Ward People's Committee, highly appreciated the support of the Golden Heart Fund.
He said that at a time when the entire political system focuses on overcoming the consequences of floods, the support of the Golden Heart Social and Cultural Fund is a timely and practical source of encouragement for union members and workers in boarding houses, helping them to soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
