It has long been rumored that Apple will partner with other artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot companies in the future to support Apple Intelligence features.
Apple has partnered with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to iOS, and the feature is available in iOS 18.2, which is expected to be released to the public next week.
However, according to a recent report from Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, users may have a clearer view of the timeline of this issue.
“Other future improvements include integration with Google Gemini. However, Apple will likely give OpenAI some exclusivity, especially since the company doesn’t have to pay for the technology, so I don’t expect the Gemini chatbot to appear on iOS until next year,” writes author Mark Gurman.
So, at least according to Gurman, we probably won't see Google Gemini integration with Apple Intelligence until next year — though it's unclear whether that means sometime in the spring (like iOS 18.4) or later in the year.
Gurman also recently reported that Apple is delaying a “larger than usual” number of iOS 19 features. As such, it’s likely that Google Gemini integration will take even longer, potentially missing the initial iOS 19.0 release.
However, if users still really want to use Gemini on their iPhone, Google released a standalone Gemini app on the App Store last month, allowing iOS users to tap into Google's latest AI engine.
