The latest storm and low pressure news on the morning of May 23rd from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the low pressure monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a low probability of strengthening into a tropical storm in the next 24 hours and may not affect the country in the next 4 days.
In the morning weather bulletin on May 23, weather expert Leanne Loreto of PAGASA said that the low pressure area recorded most recently was about 2,135km east of the northeast of Mindanao Island.
According to Loreto, this low pressure area may move west or west-northwest.
From today to May 27, we will continue to monitor this system outside PAR. Currently, the low pressure has not affected the Philippines, but it is likely to strengthen into a storm in the next 4 to 5 days on average," said a PAGASA expert.
Ms. Loreto added that the Philippine weather agency is also monitoring another low pressure inside PAR, which was last identified about 795km east of General Santos city. The low pressure trough of this system will continue to affect some areas in Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and the Negros Islands.
Regarding the weather forecast for May 23, Ms. Loreto said that Luzon Island will have hot and sultry weather, while the rest of Visayas and the Palawan area generally have beautiful weather but there is still a possibility of localized thunderstorms.
Most areas of Mindanao, Negros Islands, Central Visayas, Leyte, Southern Leyte and Eastern Samar are forecast to be cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
