Tropical convergence zone, easterly winds and localized thunderstorms are forecast to cause rain in many areas of the Philippines on May 19, according to the latest weather forecast bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The tropical convergence zone, a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere, continues to affect the southern Mindanao region. Meanwhile, easterly winds are dominating the Visayas region and localized thunderstorms are affecting Luzon Island.
Weather forecaster Veronica Torres of PAGASA said that thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening, may continue on most of the Philippines' territory in the coming days.
These weather conditions are expected to continue for at least the next 3-5 days," Ms. Torres said.
However, on May 19, many places are forecast to be cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
The Tropical Convergence Zone causes overcast skies, scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Soccsksargen, Davao Oriental and Davao Occidental.
The Metro Manila capital area and the rest of Luzon Island are forecast to have sky from low to cloudy, accompanied by localized showers due to thunderstorms.
Easterly winds will affect the Visayas region and the rest of Mindanao. Weather from low to cloudy with showers or localized thunderstorms is forecast to be recorded in this area.
PAGASA also said that there are currently no low pressure areas or storms being monitored in or near the Philippine forecast area.
Meanwhile, low pressure 98W is currently near the Okinawa archipelago of Japan. This system is said by forecasters from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the US Navy to have little chance of developing into a storm in the next 24 hours.
