Tropical depression Neneng is moving faster in the sea off eastern Taiwan (China), according to the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). In a bulletin at 5 am on August 20 (Philippines time), PAGASA said Neneng continues to affect the weather in many areas of this country.
On August 20, the southwest monsoon (Habagat) is forecast to continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to gusts on most of Luzon and Visayas islands, along with the Zamboanga peninsula, North Mindanao and Davao region.
By August 21, strong winds to strong gusts are forecast in most of Luzon, Panay Island, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar and Davao Oriental. On August 22, most of Luzon and Visayas and Davao Oriental may continue to experience strong winds and strong gusts.
According to PAGASA, the center of low pressure Neneng at 5 am on August 20 was determined to be about 390km north of Itbayat, Batanes province. The system moved in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 30 km/h, with the strongest wind maintained at 45 km/h near the center and gusts up to 55 km/h.
PAGASA forecasts that low pressure Neneng will slow down as it changes direction to the north. The center of the low pressure may continue to move over the sea off the east coast of Taiwan (China) or make landfall in the northern area of this island. PAGASA predicts that in the next 12 hours, Neneng may weaken into a remaining low pressure area.
In addition to Neneng, PAGASA is also monitoring a tropical depression and tropical storm Saudel, both of which are outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In Zambales and Bataan, rain warnings have been lifted after rainfall in these two localities fell to light to moderate levels in the past 3 hours. However, some areas in Bataan, including Morong and Bagac, still have light to moderate rain, sometimes heavy rain. PAGASA forecasts that this situation could last for about 3 more hours and affect neighboring areas.
According to PAGASA, the Philippines continues to monitor Neneng's developments as the system moves towards Taiwan (China) and weakens in the near future.
