According to AFP, speaking to reporters at the White House on August 19 (local time), US President Donald Trump said that he is expected to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year.
The statement was made in an effort to restore the personal relationship between the two sides that was established during his first term.
Mr. Trump emphasized the importance of peaceful relations with the North Korean leader, and said that the country currently possesses 57 very powerful nuclear weapons.
President Trump has not disclosed the specific time and location for the meeting with Mr. Kim. However, US media reported that the White House is considering the possibility of holding a meeting during Mr. Trump's participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in China in November.
Also on August 19, Ms. Kim Yo Jong - younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said that she was unaware of recent information related to North Korean and US leaders contacting each other.
However, Ms. Kim Yo Jong said that Mr. Kim Jong Un still keeps good memories and feelings about US President Donald Trump, and assessed that the personal relationship between the two leaders is still very good.
