Typhoon Saudel suddenly reappears, likely to continue to strengthen in the East Sea

Typhoon Saudel suddenly returned to the Philippines' monitoring area and is likely to strengthen over the South China Sea.

According to storm news, the latest low pressure from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the tropical depression, formerly known as Typhoon Saudel, previously named Obet by the Philippines, has returned to the Typhoon Forecasting Area (TCID). However, Saudel is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

According to PAGASA, at 10:00 PM on August 29th (local time), the center of Saudel was located about 1,055km northwest of the northernmost point of Luzon Island. The system has maximum winds of about 45 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 75 km/h.

Saudel is currently moving west-southwest at a speed of about 30 km/h.

Some forecast models show that Saudel may move through mainland China in the coming days and weaken into a low pressure area. However, this system is likely to strengthen again after going out to the southern sea of the South China Sea.

After that, Saudel was forecast to be able to shift direction to the northeast, towards Taiwan (China). PAGASA does not rule out the possibility of the system returning to PAR, although this agency assesses the possibility of Saudel landing directly on the Philippines as low.

Saudel may also affect the weather in the Philippines as the southwest monsoon (Habagat) strengthens next week. PAGASA warns people to continue to follow up on updates as the system's path and intensity may still change.

While Saudel returned to the monitoring area, another weather system is also being particularly noticed by PAGASA.

The low pressure area 08j is currently located inside PAR and is assessed to have a high probability of developing into a tropical depression within 24 hours.

Previously, low pressure area 08i left TCID at 8:00 PM on August 29.

PAGASA recommends that people regularly update weather information, especially when Saudel is likely to strengthen again after weakening and the low pressure area 08j is having conditions to develop into a tropical depression.
