Weather forecasts show that a low pressure area off the Luzon Islands is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

According to the latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), a low pressure area being monitored in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

In the news bulletin broadcast at 4 am on August 27, PAGASA identified a low pressure area at a location about 1,030km northeast of Luzon.

The bulletin does not provide further information about the current intensity or expected direction of movement of the low pressure area. Therefore, there is no basis to determine whether the system is likely to move towards the Philippines or affect other areas in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the weather in many areas of the Philippines continues to be affected by the southwest monsoon (Habagat). On August 27, rain is forecast to appear in Luzon and the western Visayas region.

In Zambales and Occidental Mindoro, Habagat may cause scattered rain during the day. These are areas predicted to be clearly affected by the southwest monsoon.

In Metro Manila, Ilocos region, Cordillera administrative district, the rest of Central Luzon, Batanes, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Palawan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental, it is cloudy, with scattered rain and thunderstorms.

The remaining areas of Luzon along with Aklan, Capiz and Negros Oriental are forecast to have cloudy skies at times, accompanied by showers or localized thunderstorms. PAGASA said these phenomena are also related to the impact of Habagat.

In the remaining areas of the Philippines, the weather is forecast to be cloudy at times, with the possibility of showers or localized thunderstorms. The main cause is localized thunderstorms in the area.

PAGASA warns people to continue to follow weather bulletins and the latest updates on the developments of the low pressure area.
