On June 4, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said that a meeting of the Cambodia - Thailand Joint Border Committee (JBC) will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on June 14 to discuss border issues.
"Cambodia is committed to resolving border issues peacefully, through technical mechanisms and in accordance with international law," emphasized Cambodia Foreign Ministry spokesperson Chum Sounry.
The spokesperson also said the meeting would focus on the area where the recent incident occurred.
Spokesperson Chum Sounry affirmed that with a firm commitment to protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, Cambodia is determined to turn its borders with neighboring countries into a region of peace, friendship, cooperation and development for the benefit of countries and people of other countries.
The meeting was scheduled after soldiers of both countries briefly fought in the Pearl hinhrd on May 28, killing a Cambodian soldier.
The Pearl Triangle is the border sharing area between Cambodia, Thailand and Laos.
Previously, on June 1, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that at the upcoming JBC meeting, the Cambodian side will propose that Thailand take border issues related to the Pearl Triangle area, Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Toch Temple and Ta Krabey Temple to the United Nations International Court of Justice (ICJ).
