RT reported that on February 24, WikiLeaks released a series of documents showing that US and European officials have long been aware that Ukraine's ambition to join NATO is at high risk of leading to conflict.
In the document collected by WikiLeaks, the February 2008 telegram of the US Ambassador to Russia, then-William Burns, warned that Russia viewed NATO expansion as a security threat.
Not only is Russia concerned about being surrounded and losing influence in the region, it is also concerned about unpredictable and uncontrollable consequences that could seriously affect the countrys security interests, Burns wrote.
WikiLeaks revealed another telegram, dating back to 2005, recording a meeting between the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Asian Affairs, then-US Secretary of State Daniel Fried, and a number of senior French officials. The document shows Paris is also concerned that Ukraine's NATO roadmap could spark a war in Europe.
If there is still a potential cause for war in Europe, it is Ukraine, WikiLeaks quoted the diplomatic adviser of the French President, then-of-the-term Maurice Gourdault-Montagne.
According to Mr. Gourdault-Montagne, Russia has always considered Ukraine a " core interest sector". Once intervened by the US and its European allies, Moscow could react strongly.

However, until September 2009, despite a series of warnings, Washington has been pushing for Kiev's entry into NATO, while firmly rejecting Moscow's stance. This information appeared in the telegram of the US Ambassador to Russia at that time, Mr. John Beyrle.
Also in documents collected by WikiLeaks, Moscow has repeatedly warned diplomats that Ukraine's joining of the US-led coalition could spark civil war or destabilize the entire region, forcing Russia to make a decision that the country "does not want to face".
WikiLeaks was founded in 2006 by Julian Julian Julian Julian. This is a non-profit international organization, specializing in providing confidential documents, mainly political, military and diplomatic, collected from many different sources.
The above document was compiled by WikiLeaks into a 24-minute video and posted on social network X on February 24.
