On October 4, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said a woman armed with a weapon was shot by a US Border Guard officer for crashing into a vehicle belonging to the ICE Immigration Department in Chicago.
The woman - an American citizen whose identity has not been disclosed - then drove herself to the hospital. There is currently no further information about this person's condition.
According to Deputy Minister Tricia McLaughlin, the woman was carrying a semi- offensive gun.
ICE agents used pepper and rubber bullets during the tense clashes with protests on October 4.
In a post on X, US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced that he would send more special forces to control the scene at Brighton Park in Chicago.
On the same day, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said he had received a ultimatum from President Donald Trump on the request to deploy the states National Guard.
It is unreasonable and against-democratic to ask a governor to send troops within ones states borders without consensus, Pritzker said in a statement.
Meanwhile, White House spokesman Abigail Jackson said Trump has approved the deployment of 300 National Guard soldiers to protect federal employees and property.
Recently, people have continuously held protests in Chicago, in protest of the increased presence of federal forces.
There have also been many times when demonstrators sat on the road to prevent ICE vehicles carrying prisoners from entering the facility, which were pushed back by heavy armed agents with force, pepper and rubber bullets, creating a scene like on the battlefield.
On October 3, police clashed with hundreds of protests outside an ICE facility in the suburbs of broadview, Illinois.
People in other Democratic-led cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Portland ( Oregon), also condemned similar enforcement by the Trump administration.
