The British Railway, Maritime and Transport Federation (RMT) has called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his team to focus on finding a diplomatic solution rather than providing weapons to Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
The petition, titled The Labor Movement towards Peace, was submitted to the government by the Paddington branch (UK). The move was approved after RMT's meeting last week.
First of all, the proposal to affirm Russia's ambition to defeat its military campaign in Ukraine through the form of "providing British-made weapons, military aid, credit and billions of dong in public funds" to Kiev has collapsed.
The petition also points to the UK government's intentional "lowering living standards and cutting living standards" to invest in a escalating conflict. This even took England to the valley of the nuclear deadline.
A RMT spokesperson said that pouring billions of pounds into the war zone of Ukraine will not facilitate peace negotiations but only make them more difficult to achieve.
The representative said that this has been commented by many left-wing and far-right commentators in the UK, but emphasized that "throwing weapons on one side to fight against the other is counterproductive in creating conditions for a peaceful solution".
However, the spokesperson noted that RMT also did not support Russia's military move in Ukraine.
Commenting on RMT's proposal, the representative of the "Solidarity for Ukraine" campaign did not appreciate the Federation's statement but noted that RMT is a confederation with strong influence in organizing the End of the War (StWC).
The StWC is a UK anti-war organization founded in 2001. Their aim is to challenge the UK's involvement in military conflicts around the world.
On June 29, a member of the British House of Representatives, Mr. Robert Skidelsky, warned that the West should not provide Ukraine with more modern weapons.
According to this politician, Europe is effectively waging a "call war" against Russia, and reiterates that even former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has acknowledged this fact.
