On April 25 (US time), a shooting occurred at a White House Press Association party, causing President Donald Trump and the cabinet to leave the scene in an emergency, before the suspect was arrested.
Accordingly, at about 8:35 PM US time, guests at the Washington Hilton panicked to find shelter when gunshots rang out. Immediately after that, Secret Service agents quickly approached and took Mr. Trump and officials out of the banquet room.
Washington officials said a gunman rushed through a security checkpoint in the hotel lobby. The suspect carried a plain-barreled handgun, a handgun and many knives. When passing through this area, the subject was stopped by the Secret Service.
During the process of control, law enforcement forces engaged in a gunfight with the suspect. However, the suspect was not shot but was knocked down and handcuffed. A Secret Service agent was injured and taken to the hospital, while the suspect was also transferred for medical examination.
At about 9:17 pm, Mr. Trump spoke up for the first time, saying that the security force had reacted quickly and confirmed that the suspect had been arrested. He suggested the event would continue, but about 20 minutes later said he had received a recommendation to leave the venue and the event would be re-organized within 30 days.
At around 10:30 PM, Mr. Trump appeared at the White House at a press conference with the FBI Director and the acting US Attorney General, saying initial information showed that this was an attack by a single gunman.
At about 11:13 pm, federal prosecutor in the Special Administrative Region of Columbia, Ms. Jeanine Pirro, announced that the suspect was prosecuted on charges of using guns with violent acts and attacking federal employees with dangerous weapons.
The incident raised security concerns at high-level events, although functional forces affirmed that they had controlled the situation for a short time.
