The latest storm and low pressure news from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Agency (PAGASA) said that a new low pressure area is forecast to appear in the southern East Sea in the week from January 7 to January 13.
This low pressure area formed in the area near South Palawan, Philippines before expanding its sphere of influence in the South China Sea.
However, forecasters say that the low pressure in the East Sea is unlikely to strengthen into a storm or tropical depression.
Immediately after the low pressure area in the East Sea, in the week from January 14 to January 20, another low pressure area with a very wide area of influence will form in the east of the Philippines.
This low pressure area near the Philippines appears at the eastern boundary of PAGASA's TCAD forecast area. During the forecast period, this low pressure area is expected to move into PAR and head towards the eastern Mindanao - eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.
Similar to the low pressure in the East Sea, this low pressure is also unlikely to strengthen into a storm or tropical depression.

Currently, there are 3 weather systems forecast to bring rain to the Philippines on January 8, including: Northeast monsoon predominates in most of Luzon, while broken winds affect southern Luzon. Meanwhile, easterly winds (winds from the Pacific region) are forecast to bring rain to Visayas and Mindanao.
Due to wind cuts, it is highly likely to have scattered rain in the areas of Bicol, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro and Quezon. Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region and Aurora are cloudy and lightly rainy" - weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez said.
Citing forecasts of heavy rain in the next 24 hours due to broken winds, forecaster Dominguez noted that Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes and Sorsogon will have moderate to heavy rain (50-100 mm) which could cause flash floods and landslides.
Wind cuts will also cause cloudy weather, with the possibility of rain in Palawan. Metro Manila and other areas of Luzon have beautiful weather but still have the possibility of cloudy to scattered showers.
Visayas and Mindanao alone are forecast to have localized rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening due to easterly winds.
