The latest storm and low pressure news from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on the afternoon of January 6 said that no low pressure areas being monitored are likely to strengthen into storms or tropical depressions.
Previously, at 2 am on the same day, PAGASA monitored a low pressure area outside the Philippine forecast area (PAR), in which the low pressure forecast in the East Sea is unlikely to strengthen.
Although there is no longer a low pressure, some weather systems continue to affect the weather in the Philippines, causing cloudy skies and heavy rain in many areas.
PAGASA weather forecasters pointed out that intermittent winds are affecting the east of Southern Luzon, while northeast monsoons are affecting the remaining areas of Luzon. East winds are affecting most of the areas of Visayas and Mindanao.
PAGASA said that the areas of Bicol, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and North Samar are forecast to be cloudy, scattered rain and scattered thunderstorms due to broken winds. People in these areas are warned about the possibility of flash floods or landslides, especially during the period of moderate to heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the Zamboanga, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Palawan peninsulas are expected to be cloudy, with scattered rain and thunderstorms caused by the low pressure trough.
PAGASA warns that moderate to heavy rain can cause floods or landslides in vulnerable areas. The remaining areas of Visayas are cloudy, scattered rain and thunderstorms due to easterly winds, with the risk of flash floods or landslides similar in case of heavy rain.
In Northern Luzon, especially the Administrative Region of Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Aurora, the northeast monsoon makes the sky cloudy, accompanied by light rain, but does not cause significant impact.
The Metro Manila area and the rest of Luzon will be cloudy, with fog accompanied by scattered light rain, also due to the influence of the northeast monsoon.
For the rest of Mindanao, PAGASA forecasts that it will be cloudy to foggy, accompanied by showers or scattered thunderstorms due to easterly winds. Localized floods or landslides may occur in the event of strong thunderstorms.
