The latest storm news from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on January 2 said that there may be a tropical storm entering the Philippine area of responsibility in January 2026.
A potential tropical storm in the Philippines in the first month of 2026 may make landfall near Eastern Visayas or Caraga, Philippines.
This storm may also not have affected the Philippines at all.
However, no cloud clusters or low pressures have been recorded formed in the forecast area of the Philippines.
Previously, PAGASA said that there may be up to 8 storms forming in the first half of 2026.
Based on PAGASA's climate forecast from January to June 2026, the expected number of storms each month is as follows:
Month 1: 0 or 1 Month 2: 0 or 1 Month 3: 0 or 1 Month 4: 0 or 1 Month 5: 1 or 2 Month 6: 1 or 2
In 2026, PAGASA is expected to use storm name set No. 2, which was used for the 2022 storm season. However, some storm names will be removed because they were already strong storms affecting the Philippines in 2022 and will be replaced by other storm names.
Accordingly, the storm names Agaton, Florita, Karding and Paeng will no longer be used. Replacement storm names Adang, Francisco, Kiyapo and Pilandok will be used in the 2026 storm season.
The list of storm names for the 2026 hurricane season is: Adam, Basyang, Caloy, Domeng, Ester, Francis, Gardo, Henry, Inday, Josie, Kiyapo, Luis, Maymay, Neneng, Obet, Pilandok, Queenie, Rosal, Samuel, Thomas, Umberto, Venus, Waldo, Yayang, Zeny.
If the number of storms in the year exceeds 25, an additional name set will be used, including: Agilla, Bagwis, Chito, Diego, Elena, Felino, Gunding, Harriet, Indang, Jessica.
Philippine weather forecasters said that some weather systems are causing cloudiness and rain in many areas of the Philippines.
Accordingly, broken winds caused cloudiness, scattered rain and scattered thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and West Visayas regions.
Mindanao and the remaining areas of Visayas are forecast to be cloudy, with scattered showers or thunderstorms due to easterly winds.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon makes the sky cloudy, with light rain in Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao and Isabela, and cloudy to gloomy with scattered light rain in the rest of Luzon.
The Philippine weather agency warned about the possibility of flash floods or landslides in some areas due to these weather systems.
