According to AccuWeather's latest weather forecast, a more mild weather period is likely to form in the second week of February, affecting most of the Midwest and Eastern United States. Temperatures are forecast to gradually increase, ending the prolonged cold days from the beginning of the month.
It sounds paradoxical, but according to meteorologists, a strong extreme vortex is good news for those who are looking forward to warm weather in the US. When the extreme vortex is stable and strong, the cold air mass will be "locked" in the Arctic region. Conversely, when the extreme vortex weakens, cold air easily spills south, causing unusual cold spells.
Mr. Brett Anderson, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, said that in the coming days, the polar vortex is forecast to strengthen again, pulling a strong but stable jet stream in the west-east direction over US territory and southern Canada.
This allows warm air from the Pacific to spread inland, significantly reducing cold levels in central and eastern states.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Forecast Center said that in the week starting from February 9, many areas from the western mainland to the central and eastern United States will record higher temperatures than the multi-year average.
Notably, the Plains region may witness the strongest temperature increase, higher than normal for the beginning of February. According to NOAA, daytime temperatures may reach above 15 degrees Celsius, even reaching 20 degrees Celsius, spreading further north to states such as Montana and South Dakota on February 9 and 10.
For Vietnam, after a short cold spell at the beginning of the month, from February 10th (December 23rd of the lunar calendar), temperatures in most of the Northern and Central regions began to gradually increase, rainfall decreased, and air humidity tended to be lower than the previous period, signaling a stable warming trend until Tet.
According to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the day and night of February 10 (December 23rd of the lunar calendar), the North will have light rain in some places, especially on the night of February 10, the Northeast region will have rain, scattered light rain.
