In the town of Hanau in central Germany, police discovered a series of German national emblems painted with human blood on many personal properties and works in residential areas.
The incident began when a resident in the Lamboy area informed the police that a red cross had appeared on the hood of his car. When expanding the scope of the inspection, the authorities discovered nearly 50 cars, many mailboxes and house facades on five streets painted with this symbol.
The simultaneous appearance of traces has left residents confused, because behavior related to the symbol of a banned commune in Germany.
The police conducted an examination and confirmed that the red substance on the surfaces was human blood. Police spokesman Thomas Leipold said the blood counts were not enough to conclude that someone was in danger.
German authorities have reported that a Romania man has been arrested after the incident caused a stir across the city. Initial investigation results show that the perpetrator was moderately drunk, with an alcohol concentration of up to 1.200. The 31-year-old man was then taken to a mental hospital for further assessment.
Hanau officials said there were no signs of this being politically motivated. The police determined that this action stemmed from the subject's personal reaction after an incident at the workplace. The case is currently being handled under the charge of property destruction and use of symbols of prohibited organizations.
Hanau Mayor Claus Kaminsky strongly condemned the behavior, stressing that the use of the national symbol in human blood has transcended all moral and humanistic limits.
He said the incident caused deep outrage among the city's residents, who still have many painful memories from the 2020 shooting that killed 9 original immigrants.
According to Mr. Kaminsky, these images make it impossible for the community to away from the pain of the tragedy that was once considered one of Germany's worst domestic terrorist attacks since World War II.
In Germany, displaying symbols related to Socialism, including the cross, is a violation of the law and can be punished with up to 3 years in prison or a fine. Hanau police are continuing to collect evidence to complete the case and take further steps to handle it according to legal regulations.
