This severe cold is part of a cold air mass spreading in Asia, from China to South Korea, Vietnam, and India.
According to the Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA), from December 15, cold air will increase and flow down from the northwest. Morning temperatures in most areas are forecast to be 0 degrees Celsius or lower, generally from -9 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius. During the day, the highest temperature ranges from only 3-12 degrees Celsius, lower than the average of many years.
Notably, strong winds will make the feeling of cold increase significantly. In Chungcheong, Jeolla provinces and the Jeju Peninsula, where a strong wind warning has been issued in advance, gusts could exceed 70 km/h. At sea, dangerous storm conditions are forecast to remain, even lasting until night in the eastern sea.
In areas warned of rough seas, including southern Hainan and around Jeju, winds on the water surface reached 30-65 km/h, waves were 1.5-4m high.
In response to the severe cold, the Seoul capital government has activated a cold air response system and operated emergency rooms for cold-related illnesses to prevent casualties.
In China, in recent days, a strong cold front has swept across the northern part of the country, bringing early-season snow to many areas, with temperatures dropping sharply and strong winds.
China's National Meteorological Center has maintained a green cold wave warning, as many localities have activated emergency plans to ensure smooth traffic.
Strong winds and cooling temperatures will spread from west to east in central and eastern China. The average daily temperature or lowest in many places will decrease by 6-10 degrees Celsius.
In Beijing, the Forbidden City is covered with a layer of snow at the beginning of winter, turning the more than 600-year-old palace complex into a typical winter scene, attracting a large number of tourists.

In India, the meteorological agency (IMD) forecasts cold air in Telangana and the inland areas of Karnataka state from December 15. Some northeastern states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura could see heavy fog in the next 4 days. IMD also warns of possible thunderstorms, lightning with local gusts of wind in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In Vietnam, according to the weather forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on December 14, cold air affected the North Central region, some places in the Northwest and Central Central regions.
From December 15, cold air continues to affect other places in the Northwest and Central Central regions. On land, strong northeast winds of level 3, coastal areas of level 3-4.
