Series of explosions shake Kiev capital

Many explosions continue to occur in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.

In the early morning of August 1st, more explosions continued to be recorded in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, as air strike warnings were still maintained, according to TASS news agency quoting Hromadske-News.

TASS reported that at the time of the explosions, air strike warnings were still in effect for the Ukrainian capital. Not long before that, sirens rang throughout Kiev, demanding people to quickly move to shelters as prescribed by local authorities.

Up to now, the Kiev government and Ukrainian authorities have not announced any official information about casualties or damage after the explosions. Scene verification and assessment of the extent of the impact are believed to be still ongoing.

In previous raids, Ukrainian officials usually only released data after rescue forces and authorities completed the scene inspection.

Since the beginning of 2026, Kiev has repeatedly placed it on air strike alert as Russia increases attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles targeting many areas on Ukrainian territory. The capital Kiev is often one of the targets affected by large-scale attacks, especially at night and early morning.

According to the procedure of the Ukrainian side, air strike warnings are activated when the air defense system detects a threat of attack from missiles, UAVs or other aircraft. However, issuing warnings does not mean that all areas are attacked, because this is a preventive measure to ensure safety for people.

Russia and Ukraine have recently continued to accuse each other of conducting raids targeting military and energy infrastructure. In the context of fighting not showing signs of cooling down, air strike alerts are still occurring frequently in many Ukrainian cities, including Kiev.
