A company gives a Tet bonus of 23 months' salary, worth a billion dong

A Taiwanese (Chinese) company - famous for giving big Tet bonuses to employees - once again shocked with its year-end bonus this year.

Evergreen Marine - Taiwanese giant shipping company (China) - has just shocked the announcement of the year -end bonus on average up to 20 months for employees.

According to Taiwan News, in addition to the main bonus equivalent to 20 months' salary, each employee will receive an additional 3 months' salary bonus for the fourth quarter, bringing the total year-end bonus to 23 months' salary.

With the average salary of Evergreen Marine employees being around NT$60,000 ($1,820) per month, this bonus is equivalent to around USD41,800 (more than VND1 billion) - a dream figure for workers in many parts of the world.

Evergreen Marine recorded a net profit after tax of $1.87 billion in the third quarter of 2024, up 182% year-on-year. In the first three quarters of 2024, the company's net profit reached $3.3 billion, up more than 239% year-on-year.

This success is largely due to consistently high freight rates, driven by disruptions to global supply chains, as well as the Red Sea crisis caused by the conflict in Yemen, which has diverted fast shipping routes between Asia and Europe to longer routes.

These factors not only help Evergreen Marine increase its revenue but also strengthen its leading position in the shipping industry.

Taiwanese (Chinese) company Evergreen Marine has a tradition of giving out "huge" bonuses, and this is not the first time it has attracted attention with large bonuses.

According to the Straits Times, in 2021, the company awarded up to 40 months' salary. In 2022, the bonus reached 52 months' salary, making the company a symbol of generous compensation in the industry.

Experts predict that Evergreen Marine will continue to maintain its growth momentum in 2025. Factors such as the possibility of high ocean freight rates, combined with possible strikes on the US East Coast in January 2025, will create an additional advantage for the company.
