2 oil tankers hit by mines, large fire in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran claims 2 oil tankers trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Tehran's permission were hit by naval mines and caught fire.

On September 2, according to TASS news agency, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that 2 oil tankers trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without Iran's permission were hit by mines and caught fire.

According to IRGC's statement, 2 oil tankers took the crew off the ship at the request of the US military, then the ship was handed over to US personnel to move through a maritime route that Iran considers illegal.

The IRGC said that the ships then hit mines, exploded, stopped operating and sank into a sea of fire. However, the force did not name the 2 ships, the exact location of the incident or information about casualties.

The IRGC also emphasized that recent US attacks on southern Iran will not weaken Tehran's control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement was made after the US launched attacks on southern Iran. Tehran previously said the attacks caused casualties, amid escalating tensions between the two countries.

The Strait of Hormuz is located between Iran and Oman, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arab Sea. This is a strategic maritime route for transporting oil and gas from the Middle East to the international market.

The US side has not yet commented on the above information.
