According to a statement posted on the official website of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "The Government of the Republic of Peru has made a decision to sever diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran".
The document stated that this decision "does not lead to a severance of consular relations", and stated that the measure "has been notified to Iran through diplomatic notes, through the Iranian Embassy in Ecuador - the agency concurrently in charge of Peru".
In official statement No. 014-26, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that this measure demonstrates "a steadfast commitment to respecting international law and protecting democracy".
The statement also provided information about Tehran "obstructing the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency, repeatedly refusing inspectors to access nuclear facilities, causing difficulties for the necessary verification activities to prevent the manufacture of nuclear weapons".
