US and Saudi Arabia airstrike militants in Iraq

The US and Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against pro-Iranian armed groups, responding to more than 30 drone attacks in 72 hours.

The US military on July 28 (US time) said it had joined Saudi Arabia's armed forces to carry out attacks in Iraq targeting armed groups linked to Iran.

The US Central Command and the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces launched precision strikes in Iraq on July 28, targeting pro-Iranian terrorists directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to attack US forces and Saudi Arabia's energy infrastructure," the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

According to CENTCOM, US and Saudi Arabian fighter jets attacked many logistics locations and weapons of militant groups across eastern Iraq, as a strong response to more than 30 drone attacks directed by the IRGC in the past 72 hours. The US military said attacks targeting US forces were unsuccessful.

From February to April 2026, there were more than 600 attack plans targeting US citizens and facilities carried out by pro-Iranian terrorist militias in Iraq, CENTCOM said.

CENTCOM also declared that the IRGC and its authorized forces must end the above attacks to avoid further military reactions from the US.
