Russia warns neighbor suspected of opening airspace for Ukraine to attack Baltic oil port

The Russian Foreign Ministry issued warnings to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, accusing them of supporting Ukraine in the Russian oil port attack campaign.

Russia accuses Baltic countries of helping Ukraine in the campaign against Russian oil facilities, and accuses these countries of allowing Ukrainian forces to use airspace to carry out attacks.

Sharing with the press in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the Baltic countries "have received a proper warning".

If the governments of these countries are alert enough, they will listen. Otherwise, they will face a reaction," Zakharova said, but did not specify what the exact reaction would be.

These statements were made in the context of the Ukrainian military recently intensifying attacks targeting Russian oil facilities along the Baltic coast. Kiev mainly targets the Leningrad region in northwestern Russia, the area bordering the Baltic Sea and adjacent to Estonia.

Russia accuses Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania of opening airspace to Ukrainian forces and drones, thereby supporting Kiev to attack Russian ports in the Baltic Sea. However, all 3 Baltic countries have repeatedly denied this accusation, saying it is false information.

The European Commission said that Brussels is closely monitoring the situation as well as warnings from Russia.

The attack on a member state is an attack on the entire European Union" - European Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier declared.

However, currently "these are just threats" and Brussels is still monitoring, while relevant countries have the authority to handle them first.

Two Ukrainian drones strayed into Latvian and Estonian airspace in a large-scale attack targeting targets inside Russian territory on the night of March 25.

The intrusions took place during one of Ukraine's largest long-range UAV attacks on Russia, with 2 important targets on the Baltic coast hit: a port warehouse in Ust-Luga and a military icebreaker in Vyborg.

Ukrainian forces resumed attacks on the Leningrad region on the night of April 7, with explosions recorded near the port of Ust-Luga.

This area, where one of Russia's largest oil depots is located, has been attacked at least 5 times between March 22 and 31.

This is one of Russia's largest ports in the Baltic Sea and an important hub in crude oil and oil product exports.
