The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Telegram on September 22 that a drone attack by Ukraine targeted a resort in Crimea, killing two people and injuring 15. Russia insists the area is not open to any military targets.
Mr. Sergei Aksyonov - the head of the Crimean peninsula appointed by Russia - said the number of casualties was 3 dead and 16 injured. He also said that a nearby school was damaged, UAV debris caused a fire on an empty lot near the city of Yalta.
According to The Kyiv Independent, a source revealed that there were very important guests staying at the Foros resort at the time of the incident. On the official website of this resort, the restaurant closed on September 21 to serve special guests.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the attack, calling it a terrorist act. Meanwhile, Ukraine has not responded to the accusation.
Since Russia launched its military campaign in Ukraine in 2022, Crimea has been the target of repeated missile and UAV attacks. Recently, Ukrainian military intelligence said it had destroyed three Mi-8 helicopters and a Russian radar station in the area.
In addition to Crimea, Russia's emergency response agency also reported that a transformer station in the Krasnodar region was on fire due to UAV debris, but there were no casualties.
The Foros incident showed further tensions, with accusations and counterattacks back and forth between Russia and Ukraine on targeting civilian targets.
