TASS reported that on April 2, Mr. Kirill Dmitriev - Special Envoy of the Russian President and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund - called on officials of the European Union (EU) and the UK to admit "errors" and return to buying Russian oil and gas.
Atone for our mistakes, reduce escalating tensions, rebuild the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline at their own cost, queue to buy oil, gas, fertilizers, helium and other essential goods from Russia at affordable and reliable prices. It all started from the EU and UK acknowledging their mistakes" - Special Envoy Dmitriev wrote on X, commenting on US President Donald Trump's speech to the nation.

Mr. Dmitriev's post was posted when Donald Trump in a national address declared that the US does not need to depend on the Strait of Hormuz, and recommended that countries that are importing oil through this route resolve maritime security issues themselves or switch to buying oil from the US.
Global energy tensions occurred after the US and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran from the end of February, followed by strong retaliatory blows from the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard. A series of US military bases in the Middle East were attacked, while many oil tankers faced risks when passing through Hormuz.
Notably, Iran has restricted this transport route to ships related to the US and countries supporting the military campaign, causing global oil flow to be disrupted. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that his country still allows ships of "friendly" countries such as Russia, China, India, Iraq and Pakistan to pass through.
