Gazprom continues to break the record for the amount of Russian gas transported to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline, marking the fourth consecutive day setting a new record.
Gazprom continues to set its highest daily gas supply ever to China via the Power of Siberia route. The new record was set on December 4, following previous records on December 1, 2 and 3," Gazprom said in a statement.
Since December 1, 2024, Gazprom has increased gas transit to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline to a maximum designed capacity of 38 billion cubic meters per year. The volume of gas transported to China via this pipeline reached 4.1 billion cubic meters in 2020, 10.39 billion cubic meters in 2021, 15.4 billion cubic meters in 2022, 22.73 billion cubic meters in 2023 and 31.12 billion cubic meters in 2024.
In the first 9 months of 2025, Gazprom has increased more than 27% of Russian gas exports to China via this pipeline. Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said that the total gas supplied to China this year will exceed 38 billion cubic meters.
The Power of Siberia is the largest gas transport system in the Far East of Russia, with an export capacity of 38 billion m3 per year. Russia began transiting gas via the eastern route to China in December 2019 under a 30-year contract signed between Gazprom and the CNPC in 2014. The total gas supply during the contract period is expected to exceed 1,000 billion m3, with a value of 400 billion USD.
After Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to China, the two countries signed documents related to increasing the total gas supply capacity to 106 billion m3/year.
Documents signed during the visit include: Memorandum of Understanding on the construction of the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline, capacity of 50 billion m3/year; Decision to increase the supply capacity of Power of Siberia from 38 billion to 44 billion m3/year; Increase 2 billion m3 per year for the Far East corridor under construction, from 10 billion to 12 billion m3.
