President Donald Trump's call for support for European allies is not being paid attention to, even rejected. From allowing the use of military bases, transferring missile defense systems, to supporting a military campaign against Iran, the reaction from Europe is increasingly clearly showing limitations and caution.
One of the most notable moves came from Italy, when this country refused to allow US aircraft to land at a base in Sicily. According to local media, the request was sent when the plane was already on its way and not in accordance with bilateral agreements.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's office affirmed that Rome's actions "fully comply with international law" - a term understood as not accepting offensive military activities related to Iran.
Not only Italy, a series of other European countries also expressed a similar stance. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez not only opposed airstrikes but also refused to allow the US to use bases and airspace. Defense Minister Margarita Robles called the US and Israeli offensive campaign against Iran "absurd".
Meanwhile, Poland also refused to transfer Patriot missile systems to the Middle East, although Washington proposed it in unofficial exchanges. Warsaw said that these systems are necessary to protect NATO's eastern flank from the conflict in Ukraine.
Although Britain, France and Germany still provide defense support to Gulf allies, they also emphasize the need to cool down tensions.
According to experts, this operation was not approved by the United Nations, was not for legitimate self-defense and did not have full consultations within NATO.
In that context, Mr. Trump's reaction is increasingly harsh. On the social network Truth Social on March 31, he attacked allies for "not standing on the US side", even warning Washington may not protect them in the future.
All countries that cannot access aircraft fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, such as the UK - which has refused to participate in "eliminating" Iran - I have the following suggestion for you: First, buy oil from the US, we have a lot. Second, accumulate a little "bravery of slowness", go to the strait and bring oil back. You will have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the United States will no longer be there to help you, just like you were not there for us" - Mr. Trump wrote (photo below).

The US leader also criticized France for not allowing weapons-carrying planes to fly over airspace, calling Paris "useless".
