A large explosion occurred at a steel factory in northern China on January 19, causing heavy casualties and shaking the surrounding area. According to China Central Television (CCTV), the incident was recorded at the factory owned by Bao Gang steel group, located in Bao Dau city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The explosion created giant columns of smoke rising from the factory premises, accompanied by vibrations stretching for many kilometers. Many glass doors of adjacent buildings were broken due to pressure from the explosion, showing the serious impact on the surrounding area.
Immediately upon receiving the news, emergency rescue forces and functional agencies quickly arrived to deploy search and rescue operations and blockade the area to ensure safety. Rescue operations were carried out continuously in complex conditions due to heavy damage inside the factory.
At least 2 workers were recorded dead. In addition, 8 people are still missing and 84 others were taken to hospitals for treatment with varying degrees of injury. Medical facilities in the area have been mobilized to receive and care for the injured.
In parallel with rescue work, specialized teams continue to assess the extent of damage to facilities and inspect the factory's equipment system. Authorities are focusing on identifying the cause of the explosion to clarify related responsibilities and prevent the risk of recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
